My Brother's Second MMA Fight

For the second time, the opponent submitted. The cool thing is that my brother got him to submit even while the opponent was in the "dominant" position.

Elevator Problem

I am convinced that no one on our campus knows what the etiquette is when waiting on an elevator. You stand back so that others can get off...its easy, and quite logical, but not around here! Is it that we have an extremely pompous and self absorbed that we believe that there couldn't possibly be someone else on the elevator when we need to be on it? I think I am going to start having my phone ready to snap a picture each time the doors open to exit the elevator, I think it would be a funny photographic account of my plight! If I actually do this, I will put them here!

"Do You Get Offended Easily?"

Someone asked me yesterday, and of course, I said, "NO", because I truly don't get offended easily, but then I was wondering this...

Do people actually ever answer "yes" to this question? Would someone who who might be more on the sensitive side feel confident enough to say, "yes"? Is this only a foreign concept to be because I am a hard to offend person?

Facebook

We have known for a few weeks now that my sister in law's dad was in really bad health. Last night before we went to bed we got the call from Tuan's mom that her dad probably wouldn't make it much longer, but we had no idea what that really meant. This morning we found out that he passed last night! I am really sad for her family, and really at a loss to know what to do.

The real reason that I wrote this post, other than to say how sad I am for them is to relay the story of how I found out the news that he had passed. I always scan my Facebook News Feed to see what people are up to, and Lisa's brother had changed his status message to say that his dad had passed. Isn't it odd how quickly news travels through these sites? I totally expected we would hear the news from Tuan's mom.

Weird Tourettes Syndrome

I think I have some very weird version of Tourettes it only shows up when I see "little people". I pride myself on embracing all people and treating everyone with the same amount of respect (notice I didn't say alot of respect, because I am not always known for being really nice), but for some reason whenever I see a little person, I get really giggly inside and I want to yell out "little people, big world, woo hoo" while holding up a thumbs up? Again, I ask, what is wrong with me?

Read the Label Carefully...part 2

Okay, so the same day that I wrote the last post, I went home after work and was feeling really bad. My throat was hurting worse and worse, by the time Tuan got home with the Daytime medicine it was kind of close to bedtime, so I figured I would just wait a little longer and take the night time stuff and go to bed. Well, I waited, and I took the medicine, but I accidentally took the DAYTIME version! What is wrong with me?

Anyway, it is a few days later now, and I am feeling much better! The doctor says it is just a virus. The bad news is that Tuan is suffering the worst of his version of the virus now!

Read the label carefully...

So, I have had a REALLY sore throat for a week now, and Tuan seems to be getting it too. I am 99.9% sure that it came from Turner, but no matter where it came from, it hurts very badly!

Well, the only thing that seems to work is Tylenol Sore Throat liquid. Tuan picked up some, and I took some right when he got home from work around 6pm. I noticed that I got really sleepy as I was driving home from a trip to Wal-Mart about an hour later, but attributed it to just not feeling well. I also fell asleep really early and really quickly. This morning, I took some more when I got up. As I was packing up the stuff Turner needs for daycare, I looked at the unopened bottle sitting on the counter and noticed it was NIGHT TIME formula! I immediately went to look at the bottle I had just had some from and guess what? IT WAS NIGHT TIME TOO! Now, I feel as if I am about to pass out, but I am at work! I was probably taking a chance by even driving after taking it! Oh well!

My frustration is that other than a small statement on the bottle and a very slight color change in the wrapping over the lid when you buy it, they look EXACTLY THE SAME! It should say NIGHT TIME much more prominently!

Lesson learned though, read labels carefully!

Other

Tuan: I forgot to tell you
Tuan: at daycare today the had a form where you fill out, white, asian, etc... they didn't have other, and I told the lady there that Turner would be an other.... I went ahead an check asian because she looks more asian now.
Tricia: okay
Tuan: but they should definately have other
Tricia: yes, they should
Tuan: there are some other kids there that are other
Tricia: yep, I find it odd that they make you pick one
Tricia: that seems insensitive, what did she say?
Tuan: she was going to add a line, but I just said don't worry about it

Tuan and I have always known that our children would be "others" when it comes to being forced to choose your ethnicity/race on demographic forms. We are already having to have conversations about it. Tuan came in that evening and told me that he had decided that we would just mark the box for whichever parent she is with. :)

Here are some of my thoughts:

1. Demographic forms like this are only going to become harder and harder to fill out. There are SO MANY mixed couples these days. Who among us is full blooded anything anyway?

2. When in doubt, pick to win, if the system is going to make her make a choice, pick the one that will most likely pay off in benefits.

3. Is it wrong to play the "pick to win" game? Probably, but isn't that why these forms and records are kept anyway?

4. I want Turner to always pick what feels right to her or to pick nothing at all or to add her own box!

Brangelina's Babies

Okay, so Angelina is my girl crush, and I can't even start to tell you how stoked I am that the twins' pictures (and full family spread) are in PEOPLE this week! Yippeee! I don't subscribe to PEOPLE any more, but I will definitely be picking one up!

Single Parent

Last night was my first night with just Turner and me. It wasn't too bad, but I sure did miss having Tuan around and all his help. Especially this morning, it is so much easier, and she looks alot better, when the two of us can get her (and her stuff) ready for daycare!

Flight of the Conchords

I have recently started watching "Flight of the Conchords". I absolutely love stupid shows like this. If you aren't familiar, here is the description from HBO:

Flight of the Conchords follows the trials and tribulations of a two man, digi-folk band from New Zealand as they try to make a name for themselves in their adopted home of New York City. The band is made up of Bret McKenzie on guitar and vocals, and Jemaine Clement on guitar and vocals.

Bret and Jemaine have moved to New York in the hope of forging a successful music career. So far they've managed to find a manager (whose "other" job is at the New Zealand Consulate), one fan (a married obsessive) and one friend (who owns the local pawn shop) -- but not much else.

The show just follows their day to day stuff, but then occasionally they bust into song and video like this:

New Technology in da' House!

We had Dish Network installed on Saturday! This is exciting because we now have DVR! I love it, but haven't yet figured out the most effective way to take advantage of it! Tuan says it stresses me out, but I love it! So far, I have used it to record two of my guilty TV pleasures: Big Brother 10 and Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood! Keep your comments to yourself, they are a cute little couple and seem kind of normal! :)

It is fun to watch TV and FF through commercials! You can even rewind to see something again! I know most people have probably had this technology for awhile, but I am thrilled to finally have it!

That First DAY is a Doozy!

This is an account of my first full day back at work, needless to say, it STUNK!

It all started out with this email which had actually been sent after I left for the 4th of July holiday, so everyone else it was copied to had seen it days before I did. Read the email, and then I will share my comments and issues with it!

Tricia,

I am writing this to you and copying it to your supervisors and to my boss because I was quite disturbed by the message you left on my voice mail today. It was inappropriate, unprofessional and indeed threatening. I appreciate and share your concern that XXXXXXXXXX has not paid it's portion for sending one of our students to the XXXXXXXXXXX conference. I have been trying to track down the problem since I got your voice mail on Tuesday. We may have dropped the ball or as we all acknowledge it could be a problem associated with Banner. We will get to the root of the problem and get you paid.

I will however, not have you leave me voicemail threatening to talk with "someone in XXXXXXXXX to get this resolved". You went on to say that you "would go over my head if necessary to get paid". I do not appreciate the tone or content of your message and I want Dr. XXX and Dr. XXXXX to know how immaturely and unprofessionally you have conducted yourself.

The person who originally sent the paperwork thru has been out for three months on FMLA leave with a very serious medical condition. XXXXXX XXXXX is now working diligently to find the source of the problem and assure that the money changes hands as quickly as possible. Please do not call again, I will not speak with you further. I will let Dr. XXX know when to expect the transfer of money.

XXXXXX

First of all, this woman is notorious for flying off the handle very quickly! She has a quick temper. She works in a totally different part of campus than me and in a division that thinks they ARE the campus and needs to work with no one else. Her division is quick to demand help (usually last minute), but very slow to even consider the idea that they may be able to partner with other parts of campus to help other areas and themselves.

Our first "official" run in was a few months ago. We had been trying to get some information from her in order to plan one of our major events, and we were getting no response (we had asked repeatedly for months and kept being put off) so after consulting with my division head (above my supervisor), I was instructed to call her supervisor to explain that we needed the information and that we needed it fairly quickly. He didn't tell me to do this because he wanted to go over her head, but because we needed the information and weren't getting it. Anyway, I did as he told me and made the call, the call was pleasant, there wasn't any finger pointing, only fact presentation of our efforts, he explained the delay (all we really needed to leave them alone) and all was well, at least on our end.

Well, a day or so later, I got this steaming voicemail from her on my phone (wish I had kept it) saying that she did NOT appreciate me going over her head and I had no right to do that, and blah blah blah. She was very angry! I calmly called her back, she didn't answer, so I left a voicemail and said very simply that it wasn't like that at all, I had been asked to call simply to get some information, and we got it. Never heard anything else from her!

So, now what spurred this email. I have been out on maternity leave for 3 months. When I first went on maternity leave I had gotten an email from the people running the program she mentioned saying that this had not been paid. I got the call because we had multiple people going to the program and they were being paid for separately so I was there one contact to simplify things. I emailed her and the person helping out in my absence. The person helping out had even tried to contact this woman to follow up. I got a few other emails reminding me that this hadn't been paid over the course of MY FMLA leave! Each time we would copy her on the email, and ask how we could help. Each time, the other person helping me would try to contact them.

When I returned...THREE MONTHS LATER...I got another reminder. I sent another email and in the email saying that if I didn't get a response this time, I would see if someone else in the department could give us some information, she may have been the wrong person to talk to for all I knew. No response, so I called and left the aforementioned voice mail. Because I knew she had some issue with people calling other people, and because I had made a commitment to come back to work with a better attitude, I was very careful with my words. I am 99.9% sure that my voicemail was something like, "XXXXX, I am calling to follow up on that XXXXXXXXXXX invoice, we really need to get that paid, and I really need you to call me back. XXX and I have tried to contact you quite a few times, and have heard nothing, so I just need to know where you are in the process and how I can help. If I don't hear back from you soon, I will need to call someone else in the department to figure out who I should talk to to get this worked out."

Here are the things that make me the most aggravated about this situation:

1. This is the same lady who when I first started working her, called me to complain that the person I supervised would never get back to her. First, isn't this the exact thing I was yelled at for. Second, she should know about not getting back to people!

2. I totally can see how if you already have issues, you could read into what I said that I was going to "go over your head", but I am NOT stupid enough to say that. I am not a sticky sweet person, but I am not stupid.

3. If you are going to accuse me of things and copy a bunch of people, then keep the stupid voicemail message. I would love to hear it!

4. If you are going to copy it to my supervisors, find out who my supervisor is. My direct supervisor didn't even get it and someone else did.

5. Why is it that just because she has a bigger title on campus she is allowed to write a nasty email to accuse me of sending a nasty voice mail. She is not only older than me (by a lot), but in a higher administrative position. So shouldn't she be held to a higher standard, isn't her nastiness and IMMATURITY on display in this email when mine is only alleged. There are a lot of times in a day that I have to work with someone that makes me crazy, and I just call them stupid, gripe about them later, and move on.

6. Why couldn't she have just called me back to give me the information we were looking for? I would've helped her get it all taken care of.

7. Why did I have to be "talked" to by my supervisor for something that he hasn't even heard just because she is in a bigger position? And, why does she get the satisfaction of getting a phone saying that the issue has been addressed to me? Maybe she is the one that should be talked to, I didn't like the tone of her email either and she DEFINITELY went over my head. Nice work, POT!

8. Do I now get to pick who I want to work with? YIPPPPEEE! There are a ton of people around her that I would love to just not deal with directly any more!

9. Isn't this childish, this whole idea of not talking to someone any more. Say, I know something she needs to know. Is she going to pull a "can you tell Tricia..."?

10. If you are trying to push "professionalism" spell out the word THROUGH!

11. Don't be petty. "We may have dropped the ball or as we all acknowledge it could be a problem associated with Banner." Is a direct passive aggressive insult based on this which I was not nearly as involved in as she may think.

11. Tuan says that she was just sending this email to cover the fact that she had dropped the ball by re-focusing the attention on me. He really thinks I shouldn't have just accepted my "talking to" and pushed things further with my supervisor, the more I think about this, I feel I should've too, but I can't really go back and dig is up now. I just feel it was really unfair that her word is taken over mine when I know I didn't handle this the way she said.

Oh well, I am just getting this out of my system.

The big ending of the day came when I burned my arm really badly while trying to cook a frozen pizza! Not even something good, just a stupid frozen pizza!

How Do They Do It!

I started back to work full time on 7/7. The two weeks prior to that I had worked a few half days each week to try to ease back into things and give Turner a chance to adjust to her daycare. It is always hard to leave her, but it hasn't been as hard as I thought to get back into the swing of things.

What is hard is figuring out how to balance all the things that I want/need to do in a day. I have to get up around 5:30am to get things ready for her and me for the day, then I work all day, then I rush to pick her up so that she doesn't have to stay there for any longer than required, she naps a bit when we get home and I can usually at least get things put away and the bottles washed, then while she is awake I really want to spend time with her, and then Tuan comes home and he gets to spend about an hour with her before we start her bedtime stuff, we eat dinner LATE, I try to do a few things around the house (usually just straightening up), and then I am exhausted by 10pm and off to bed.

I really need to do more than just straigtening at the house, I have tons of projects that need to be finished, I really want to start exercising again, but I have no idea how to fit it all in! I know people do it all the time, I suppose I could get up at 5am and work out...but then I would be even more exhausted! I could also work out after she goes to bed, but that is usually dinner time and I hear you shouldn't exercise too close to bedtime...is that true? I suppose I could let her play alone while I did some stuff nearby...but that is what she gets all day at daycare! I suppose I could pass some things off to Tuan...but he really chips in more than his share and works really long hours already!

Oh well, I keep telling myself that when I am no longer trying to supply her with as much breastmilk as possible that will free up some time, and when she can follow me around and "help out" we will be able to have fun doing the things that need to be done, but for now, I WILL ENJOY MY BABY GIRL and who cares about the rest.

Sunshine Mountain

This weekend was our annual gathering at my aunt and uncle's house in NC. We get together every year near the date of Papaw's birthday. He would've been 94 this year. Mamaw was able to come again, and she is almost 93. It was a fun time, and so nice to see everyone!

LA Weight Loss

I recently started back at LA Weight Loss. I had paid for it before I got pregnant, but had to take leave, and after 10 months and 9 weeks of eating whatever I wanted, I decided it was time to go back. I have to admit, I am not taking it as seriously as I should be, or maybe I am just easing back into it, but I do need to lose weight so hopefully I will commit completely soon.

Mixed Martial Arts Fight

My brother recently trained for and won (the other guy submitted) his first mixed martial arts fight. If you not familiar this is what the Ultimate Fighting Championship guys are doing. He said it was a lot of fun and a LOT of hard work. I think he would like to do it again, but the training takes so much time away from his family I am not sure if he will or not!

Fences Make Good Neighbors...So Do Trees

We plan to fence in our backyard soon, but we started by creating a natural barrier between us and the ugly lot next to us. Tuan worked so hard putting these trees up and as they grow they will help soften the view of the lot a bit. When we bought our house we were so excited to have an empty lot beside us, and were told that there were grand plans to make it a pretty area, well they have done some drainage work there, and they mow it approximately twice a year, so it is definitely not an enjoyable thing to look at. Tuan says there are probably rats and stuff in there too, I try not to think about it since I haven't seen any!

Lack of Posting

Well, since I have been on maternity leave there is very little to write about, my days now basically consist of diaper changing, baby holding, baby feeding and bottle washing! If you want to know more about life with a newborn, feel free to visit winbaby.blogspot.com

Hopefully things will pick up soon, since I have been getting out a little more, but it is still all baby stuff...

She's Finally Here!

4/6/2008
1:03pm
7 lbs 11 oz 20 inches

After being induced on Sunday morning, I reached the goal of 5 contractions in 10 minutes really quickly. I think the pain was tolerable, but they contractions were coming every 2 minutes and were lasting a minute each so I had no time to recover, and luckily decided to go ahead and get an epidural. I say luckily, because although she had been head down for awhile, she flipped at the last minute and I was passing meconium. So, they decided to do a C-section very quickly and she was born at 1:03pm. All is well! Everyone is heatlhy, I am just a bit sore.
Thanks to everyone who has been praying for us and asking how we are!

Updates

I have spent the last few weeks working my tail off at work to prepare for the Carrie Underwood show and to wrap some things up for my time off! In the evenings and weekends I would sleep as much as possible, so definitely not a really exciting life here. Mom and Dad came to have dinner with us Friday before East and Tuan's parents came to visit a bit that Saturday. I went to a friend's baby shower that same day and played handbells in two services on Easter Sunday!

The concert went very well! It is our biggest crowd and production to date! Carrie's people were really great to work with, but very firm in what they needed. I always follow our rider completely, but even then there are always last minute things. My student volunteer coordinator did a wonderful job again, I am going to miss her when she quits doing this. Everyone was very easy to work with this time, even the facility guy who sometimes is a bit aggravating! Carrie is tiny and was perfectly pleasant for the minute that I spoke with her. I think it would be hard to be controlled by the American Idol franchise, but what do I know?

So the one big thing that I wanted to get through before having the baby is done, and I was able to wrap up a few of the smaller things yesterday! Guess now I just need to have this baby. FYI...I am having contractions, they are just not really regular yet!

Furniture Update

I forgot to mention that we finally got our furniture, but one of the couches was damaged so they took it back to replace it. Luckily we got to keep the other pieces, it is so nice to be able to enjoy the recliners when nothing else is comfortable for me.

Also, did I mention that mom and dad came up to celebrate my birthday with us last weekend. We had a nice dinner, finished up the curtains in the nursery and I got a great new navigation system. Can't wait to go somewhere I don't know and use it! Mom even made one of my favorite desserts...green fluff! I know it has some other pistachio type name, but I can't remember what it is. It was a nice night!

How do I let this happen?

I am not sure how I get so far behind on this blog. The week after my birthday was spring break week for our students. I had hoped to get all the work done for our upcoming concert so that I could go through March more relaxed. Seems like nothing has gone according to plan though, so I am still working as hard as I can to get things wrapped up so that I can go on maternity leave. I am making slow progress, but when you don't feel like working late it is hard to get too much done during the day.

We started ticket sales for our show on the 10th, and have sold more than we have for any other event so far. I definitely saw that coming, but you never know around here.

At home, things have been very restful. I have been trying to rest as much as possible, and that means that nothing much else exciting is going on.

Birthday Festivities

I ended up having more of a birthday than I thought. I had lunch at the Olive Garden with my co-workers and the staff sang and I got a small cake, but I was too stuffed to eat more than a sliver of it. Then when I got back to the office, Tuan had been there and left a Marbleslab cake for me in the freezer with a note on my computer to go look. He is too sweet to think to do that! I was fretting earlier in the day that I wouldn't get a birthday cake at all (I love cake!), but I ended up getting two!

We have also decided to go eat dinner at Barberito's which I always love!

I have also gotten tons of Facebook Happy Birthdays from my students, and a homemade card from a student!

2/18-25/2008

For our 3rd Anniversary, Tuan and I had a nice dinner at Cafe 111. I even got to have some SAFE sushi which was very enjoyable! Then we had our traditional chocolate covered strawberries, and this year, some sparkling cider at home! It was nice and relaxing! I had to work a bit late, so by the time we got home it was nearly time for bed!

On the 19th, Jen and I went to a Wedding Professionals meeting sponsored by Premier Bride. It was great to make some business connections, but I am horrible at networking. How do you get better at that? I guess you just do it, but I don't really like it! Oh well, it should hopefully pay off!

It was so nice on Wednesday and Thursday to not have to work late or do anything after work. The past few weeks have been so busy, it seems there is always some evening activity and the weekends have been booked as well! Luckily, March is looking better, we have so many things left to do at home before the baby comes, and I only have so much energy!

Friday night, Tuan and I watched American Gangster, it was a good movie, but a bit long in my opinion. Especially since our basement furniture hasn't come in yet. We also tried out the new Italian place near our house. Tuan loved it, I am willing to give it a second chance. We also finally unloaded the 5 boxes of baby clothes that a lady he works with gave us, and we got 2 more from a lady in our neighborhood. It is crazy how generous everyone is being! We are doing one box a night in an effort to get through them, and then donate the rest!

Saturday, we traveled to spend the day celebrating Dylin's second birthday! The food was yummy and it was a good time! I finally got my Picasa to work again, so there are pictures below!

Dylin's 2nd Birthday

Sunday, was a busy day, after church we ran some errands and then got to have lunch with Shannon and Abby! It was good to see them! Abby has grown so much, I can't believe she is already 5! Then we ran another errand, got home to eat some ice cream and then I had handbells and we went through another box of baby clothes and the stuff Lanie gave us! Finally, we watched The Brave One, which was a good movie!

Today is my 34th Birthday! So far, just another day at work! Tuan got me a new battery for my laptop, which is what I really wanted! I am not sure what we'll do tonight, if anything! No big deal!

Happy Birthday, Kensington! Happy Anniversary to Us!

Friday, Tuan and I left work early to head down south to celebrate Kensington's 3rd Birthday! It was a great weekend and a nice getaway to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary as well!

The kids are growing up so quickly, and it was great to hang out with Mark and Karissa and their parents!

Annoying People...

We have a REALLY big act coming to campus for our spring concert, and for the past few days people have been coming out of the woodwork to ask me for tickets. Most of them are people on campus who haven't given even a small amount of thought or concern to past events, even when we have needed their help with something. These people can get tickets on their own, but think that I am going to give them one before our students can get them because they are afraid we are going to sell out. Okay, this makes no sense, our students pay for this concert, that is why faculty/staff aren't allowed to get tickets until students have ample opportunity!

One of the people who called me is a local attorney, who is the father of a friend of mine from middle/high school who I have not laid eyes on or talked to for at least 12 years and most likely 15. So, he calls and leaves a voice message on my work phone saying that he has a question that only I can help him with, I innocently return his call only to have about 5 minutes of totally annoying chit chat and to find out that he wants tickets. I tell him that his son, who is a student, can get tickets for him and then he mentions how excited his step-granddaughter is to get to come. I tell him that we have a strict over 18 policy based on an agreement with the fire marshal and our own wishes to keep the show fun for our students. He then starts telling me how "mean" and when I don't budge, he mentions that he knows the fire marshal and a lot of other people for that matter! What an #@&!!!! I can't believe people have the gall to do this kind of stuff. If he thought accusing me of being mean was going to get him somewhere, he certainly hasn't been around me much! I don't really mind that! Anyway, I couldn't believe it!

Another person on campus called and said, very non-chalantly, that they would like to go ahead and purchase their tickets and a backstage pass! That cracked me up! Again, our students ALWAYS get tickets first, and since when do we sell backstage passes! I laugh at this backstage pass idea anyway, because to be literally backstage is not the place anyone wants to be. It is dark, you can't see anything, the artists aren't hanging around back there, you have to be really careful to not trip over cables, and usually it is cold! I was thinking it would be fun to just put some random chairs back there and when people ask for such ridiculous privileges I could sell them one of these seats! They would get EXACTLY what they asked for and I could make a buck!

I will happily hook up people who I feel deserve it because they have helped at other shows or they have some personal reason (like the man on campus whose son wrote the artist Grammy winning song, no joke). He can get a ticket early, that's a big deal! Or if you have been a consistent friend (and are over 18), I will be happy to help out as much as I can, but what are these other people thinking?

Updates

So, I wrote last on 2/4/2008...here's what we've been up to!

I kind of taught the RAD class this semester, there is only so much you can do when you are 8 months pregnant, but hopefully it was enough to keep my instructor's certification up to date!

We had a great speaker on Campus Computing and the Law (C.L.Lindsay) on campus on 2/6 the same day as our annual Winter Cruise Club Fair event. It sounds like a boring topic, but it is actually a great presentation and very entertaining. It touches on the ways college students can get in trouble (legally and with future employers) with online networking sites.

Tuan and I took a less than exciting or informative Infant Care class on the 7th. We really learned nothing, but I did discover that Tuan apparently has some hidden swaddling talent.

On the 9th, we attended a belated Chinese New Year celebration at a friend of Tuan's family. The food was very yummy and we got to spend the day with Amber and Dylin which is always fun!

I played handbells in church again on Sunday, luckily we had already decided to go to early service since I had forgotten that I was supposed to be there at 8. We walked in just in time for me to get ready to play. Whew! I also had a baby shower with some local girlfriends, it was a lot of fun and again, everyone was so generous! Tuan had a soccer game on Sunday night, they didn't win, but he is really enjoying this season much more than the last one. He is seemingly aggravating a injury every week, so he plays keeper more than he wants to, but all is well! I am glad he is playing! I just wish he played at times when I could more easily go watch, and I wish they had something other than bleachers to sit on because comfort is big for me right now!

Tuesday, we went to the breastfeeding class at the hospital, it was a great class! We only have one more class that we want to take and that is Infant CPR! Tuan has been a great sport about attending all these classes with me!

Wednesday was the Porn Debate, see other post. Thursday...Valentine's Day, see other post!

Valentine's Day

Tuan and I had a great Valentine's Day! It was fairly low key, but nice. I had really wanted to make him some "Doubletree Cookies", but we have been so busy lately with work events and baby classes that I cheated and bought him some! I think he was happy either way!

For the past three years, Tuan has called the spa that I like and made appointments for me on Valentine's Day and then we go out to dinner. Well, this is the same place I have been going every 6 weeks for a haircuts and stuff, and I already had some apointments for Valentine's Day on accident. He didn't let that stop him, he called and added some services to my existing appointment and paid for everything! It was so nice! Especially since my poor swollen and neglected pregnancy feet were treated to a nice pedicure! After that we had dinner at Carraba's which we both enjoy! It was a nice relaxing date!

During work, I had accidentally called a wrong number and the man I accidentally called was too cute. I asked for the person I was calling, he said I had the wrong number, I said that I found my mistake, and he said, "No problem, Happy Valentine's Day!". I thought it was fun, and call him my "Wrong Number Valentine".

The great PORN debate - The Scene

The great PORN debate - The Scene

On Wednesday, we had Craig Gross and Ron Jeremy on campus for The Porn Debate. I didn't get to hear much of the debate, but I had heard them speak before and our students really enjoyed it and I think it really got them to think about some important things. I wasn't able to listen much because I was helping with crowd control. We were packed! The room was only supposed to have 600 people in it, and we were able to accomodate close to 1100. I know most people came to see Ron Jeremy and not necessarily for the debate, but they still had to listen to both sides. Ron was also really gracious to our students nad stayed around for as long as they wanted to take pictures and talk. So, here are my impressions of my time spent with Craig and Ron before and after the show. I was able to spend quite a bit of time with them.

Ron makes me feel sad, I won't go into specifics of the reasons why I got this impression (out of respect for Ron and some other people I have talked to), but it is easy to see after spending any amount of one on one time with him that he really would like something more in his life, but doesn't know how to get it or maintain it. It makes sense really, if you have lived most of your life being notorious for being a porn star and so are used to getting tons of attention everywhere you go from people of all ages and walks of life, how do you give that up? How do you leave the addiction for attention for something that you don't understand or have never tried? I think it must be like giving up drugs or alcohol or an abusive relationship, it is sometimes easier to stay with what you know, even if you feel empty, than it is to step out and try something different.

Ron and Craig, especially Ron, are TALKERS! They talked constantly when it was just me and them! Mostly about gigs they had done or publicity or their next debate, which just happens to be at Yale and featured on ABC's Nightline tonight. Even though I didn't catch any big personal dialogues, they respect each other, and seem to really care about each other. It is like one of those weird movie friendships. It was cool to be around them together when they weren't doing their debate.

Ron is very talented...he plays piano, is very well educated and well spoken, and is very respectful and friendly to everyone. I saw all of this in just a few hours together, and I am sure the depth of his talent and character goes way beyond that.

Craig is a great sport. He knows that without Ron he cannot reach out with his ministry the way he would like to. He knows that people do not normally come to these events to see him and he graciously steps to the side afterwards to allow people to meet Ron. He has a great spirit, and truly cares about what he does. I think he is the perfect person for this ministry, and I can see why he is so well accepted by many of the porn industry people. He also has been to our area quite a few times for youth conferences at Milligan, not sure why I found that to be interesting.

All in all, it was a lot of money, but I think it was one of our better programs and I am glad our students decided to do it!

Another quick catch up post...

I have done it again, let more than a month go by without writing. All I can say is that making a baby is hard work, the holidays and work has been really busy since school started back on the 14th of January.

So here goes...

We spent New Year's Eve with our Sunday School class at Jen and Jeff's it was a good time. We played Rummy which I haven't done in ages, ate a ton of food, and Tuan watched some crazy motorcycle stuntman try to beat a record. We rang in the new year with Ryan Seacrest and then all went home!

We went to Tuan's parents the weekend of his mom's birthday, it was a quick trip, but good. She always does so much work cooking and stuff while we were there, so I am not sure how much of a Birthday gift it was!

Jen and I have met with about 4 brides to be lately who have asked us about planning their weddings this summer. We thought we would at least get one, but we didn't. We aren't too torn up over it since weddings really aren't where we want our business to go, we really want corporate stuff, but I suppose we should care what happened. One girl only wanted a director and found out her church provides one. One girl decided not to get married. One couldn't afford us, and the other just hasn't gotten back to us. She was the one we were most interested in, but her wedding seemed the most likely to not happen too, so who knows! We should really start advertising, since we haven't, but we are both so busy and now that I am pregnant I am a bit preoccupied. Good thing we don't need this job to eat. Once things settle down with the baby a bit, I think I will do some work. We are updating our website, so that is a start!

Tuan is playing in an indoor soccer league and having a great time! He is on a co-ed team and they have one all but one of their games! I am glad he likes it this time. The last time he played in this league it didn't really enjoy it. I think he is matched up with a better level of players this time.

Tuan and I finally found some furniture that we like and have ordered it! I can't wait until it arrives. It is reclining furniture, so I think I will be able to get comfy on something for once.

I had a 4D Ultrasound done on the 21st, it turned out well, but Turner wasn't completely cooperative. She kept her foot in her face the entire time. She did allow us to see that she looks JUST LIKE TUAN! I am fine with that!

I had some horrible stomach virus for a few days last week, but seem to be over it now! I still think I am a bit dehydrated.

Thursday night, we were able to go to the Troutdale Dining Room courtesy of our Financial Advisor who also fronts the rock band Spank which I find entertaining because our Sunday School teacher also fronts a band, Bag A Cats. I highly recommend the Troutdale for a special night out, and as cliche as it sounds, I highly recommend the TROUT!

Saturday, we took our marathon childbirth class where they told us all about labor and delivery options. It lasted a long time, but it was good information, and we got to tour the hospital. While we were at lunch, I was walking through a parking lot between some cars and just as I got beside this woman's car she opened her car door into me. It bruised my stomach so I have a big purple bruise, but it wasn't hard enough to be worried about the baby, just one of those weird what-the-heck just happened moments. I don't think the woman noticed that I was pregnant since she was in shock too, so hopefully she didn't lose too much sleep over it.

I had another shower yesterday with my mom's family and some longtime family friends. Jessica put so much work into it and it was great! Everyone once again was very generous!

Last night we had our best Super Bowl party to date. We have had our Sunday School class over for the past few years and last night the most people came, we had great food, the game was good and everyone seemed to have a good time!

We have actually had a couple of weekends where Tuan and I were able to spend a lot of time relaxing. I know he was probably bored silly, but I welcomed it. We would fix breakfast or go out, lay around the house and watch movies, run errands or just window shop. It was great! It is all over for the next few weeks though!

There now I think that will get me somewhat caught up for a bit...

Mom Knows

What the heck does that mean? I saw it on a bumper sticker yesterday. Here are the possibilities that I came up with...

1. Its a fun band name

2. Its a mom's car and wants all children/teenagers to know that mom knows what's up and you aren't getting anything over on her

3. Its a teenager who is doing crazy stuff and doesn't want people to bother finding their mom because mom already knows

4. Its some weird civic/support/mommy's group name

What do you think?
