Muffin Tin Countdown Calendar Tutorial

Muffin Tin Countdown Calendar Tutorial
Time to complete:
Depending on your level of detail you could finish one of these in less than an hour, however it could take much longer! :)

Supplies needed:
  • 24 section mini muffin tin
  • Various papers to match your mood, decor or theme
  • Various embellishments to match your mood, decor or theme
  • Paper cutter, scissors with ruler or 2 1/8 inch square punch
  • 24-2 inch square magnets (I used magnetic sheets from the craft section of Walmart and old business card promo magnets)
  • Glue sticks, tape runners or double sided tape (3 dimensional embellishments may require other adhesive options)
  • Numbers (we used stickers, rub on numbers, stamps, handwritten and numbers cut on the Cuttlebug or Cricut)
  • Optional: Ribbon for hanging

Step 1:
Decide on the 2 1/8 inch square base colors that you want

Step 2:
Layer other papers, embellishments, numbers etc on the base paper to decide the look of your calendar and add numbers.

Step 3:
Adhere the embellishments to the base paper

Step 4:
Adhere the base paper to the magnet. For this step I recommend using a stronger adhesive. We used this product that I found at Michael's

Step 5:
If your muffin tin came with a hole or holes you can string ribbon through them and tie a pretty bow for hanging. If your's doesn't have holes, you can use a power drill.

Step 6:
Fill your countdown calendar with goodies, notes, inspiration or activities to make counting down the day to your special event even more special.

Variations:
Christmas Advent Calendar
  • read Christmas scriptures, include family traditions, watch Christmas movies, see previous post, take blankets and food to a shelter together, etc.
Birthday Countdown Calendar
  • tell your child about the day they were born, look at past birthday pictures, plan birthday festivities, give clues to a gift that is hidden, collect toys to donate to children without, etc.
Vacation Countdown Calendar
  • look at the map to find the destination, plan places you want to visit, fun facts about destination, watch a movie or read a book set in the destination location, plan your packing list, pack a bag of car entertainment together, etc.
Here are a few more that my friends made to provide some inspiration:
